As part of our program of planned expansion, we are seeking a Project Manager/Estimator to join our team both our Kelowna and Nanaimo locations. The Project Manager/Estimator is responsible for the preparation of costs estimates and tender package submissions to acquire new civil construction projects, Okanagan region and then will oversee and manage these projects.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage civil construction projects with the support of our management team
  • Prepare accurate costs estimates and complete tender package submissions for new projects
  • Manage project performance to meet schedule, budget, and contract specifications
  • Complete site inspections and attend progress meetings
  • Prepare/review quality control, OH&S, traffic management and environmental plans
  • Manage resources, cost control, progress estimates, and contract change management
  • Liaise with clients, consultants and sub-trades
  • Provide support for our field teams as necessary

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in construction or engineering
  • Familiarity with or experience in the civil construction industry is an asset
  • Graduate of a recognized post-secondary program related to civil engineering or construction management is an asset
  • Experience using estimating software is an asset
  • Able to work in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Strong organizational and excellent communication skills, with the ability to multitask
  • Flexibility to work extended hours when required
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs, most notably Word & Excel
  • Valid BC driver’s license

The typical hiring range for this position is $100,000 – $130,000 per year. The exact compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, internal equity, and other criterion.

You will be accountable for:

  • Surveying civil infrastructure projects including roads, retaining walls, utility piping, and bridges
  • Being proficient with Civil 3D or Trimble Business Center, prepare survey layout files from IFC drawings and supplied CAD
  • Providing survey layout as instructed by the site supervisor
  • Reporting month end quantities for projects including earthwork volumes and utility pipe records

We are in search of a Junior Project Coordinator (Co-op Student or Summer Student) to join the Copcan Civil teams in our Kelowna and Nanaimo locations.  In this position, you will be responsible for coordinating projects and construction activities for a wide range of complex heavy industrial installation of bulk materials handling equipment and structures projects.   You will support of the project team and work very closely with the Project Manager and field superintendents to effectively coordinate project trades, subcontractors, and the owner’s personnel for all project activities.

You will be accountable for:

  • Promoting a work environment where the safety and health of all employees, subcontractors, and individuals is paramount
  • Collaborating and assisting Estimators with estimating, including maintaining accurate bid lists, participation in the estimate review and bid wrap up process
  • Working with senior staff to develop, assess and improve project management and operations
  • Coordinating, tracking, and reporting on various project functions including health & safety, environment, quality, subcontractor progress, and scheduling
  • Helping with quantity take-offs, quote solicitation, comparative table analysis, WBS development, and estimate entry NorLand’s bid software
  • Taking project progress photos, quantity measurements, managing hydrostatic and pneumatic utility testing, and coordinating sample taking and lab testing
  • Working with foremen and superintendents to ensure accurate completion of daily crew reports for payroll and equipment time processing
  • Analyzing job costing and helping to produce accurate budget forecasting
  • Working with the procurement team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials and services 

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Civil engineering technologist / civil engineering student
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Outstanding attention to detail, prioritization, and organization skills
  • Familiar with construction survey equipment and methods
  • Proficient knowledge with MS Office applications
  • AutoCAD / Civil 3D experience
  • Strong work ethic – ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines

We are in search of Equipment Operators in Victoria & Nanaimo, BC. The successful candidates will be responsible for working with a team of other equipment operators to accomplish site-level goals and promoting the company’s HSE policies throughout each project. They’ll bring extensive knowledge and experience in city, urban pipe laying and road building.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate an Excavator, in a safe and respectful manner at all times on sites
  • Operate as a productive member of a high functioning team to drive high quality results
  • Achieves maximum production with full attention to crew safety and the prevention of incidents
  • Perform daily pre-inspection machinery safety checks, equipment service and inspection log
  • Ensure effective communication at all times with the ground field crew
  • Report on project progress and any potential issues as they arise to Field Supervisors
  • Attend and be an active participant in all mandatory safety meetings

 Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years working experience required on full size 40-ton and 50-ton size excavators.
  • Ability to operate backhoe, dozer, &/or loader an asset
  • Must have experience with various shoring types and excavations to maximum reach of digging depth
  • Must have experience working with pipe crews and is comfortable working in tight & deep spaces and in traffic
  • Must have experience digging around live systems, pull trench, cut slope or grade to finish tolerance
  • Understanding of Safety and the expectations to exceed safety standards
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
  • Holds a valid driver’s license and has the ability to drive within the Province of BC
  • Fit to work – ability to see, hear, walk, stand, lift up to 50 lbs
  • Basic Computer skills is required with an experience with GPS systems consider an asset
  • Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing
